NAGA Spirit Dragon Boat Club
NAGA Spirit started as the UNSW Malaysian Students’ Organistaion (MSO) Dragonboat Team in 1992. The initial program sought to foster friendships with newly arrived international students and help them adjust to life in Australia. And life in Australia mean sports! We believed that nothing blends that uniquely Malaysian spirit with the famous Aussie sporting culture quite like Dragonboating in Sydney.
In 2003, MSODB managed to secure a sponsorship deal with a large company, effectively changing our name to CORVU. CORVU’s sponsorship ended in 2006, after the team won Gold in every category at the 2006 State Championship Regatta. The club reincarnated as NAGA Spirit (NAGA means Dragon in Bahasa Melayu, the Malaysian National language) in 2007 as a dedication to our roots.
NAGA Spirit today caters to all ages and life stages as a social sporting club. The club has been in numerous finals at regattas since inception and have produced members representing/have represented in the NSW state as well as the Australian National Dragonboat squad.
Our team motto “For Each Other” binds the team together with a strong sense of team spirit. We are dedicated to providing a fun yet challenging environment where paddlers can come together and be involved in the unique sport of Dragon Boating.
